Rice Krispie Treats have been around for nearly 100 years and we still can’t get enough of them. The recipe was invented by the Kellogg cereal company in the 1930s and quickly spread throughout the country on the back of their cereal boxes. The gooey marshmallow treat is a classic and, might I say, a pinnacle of the no-bake dessert category. I’ve made many different versions over the years, but the recipe I’m sharing with you today is my absolute favorite. As with most rice krispie treats, this recipe is fairly simple. You’ll start out by browning the butter on the stovetop, just until those little dark specks appear. Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and mix in the salt, vanilla, and most of the marshmallows. Once combined, half of this mixture is pressed into a greased pan and then topped with a decadent layer of dulce de leche. Top it off with the rest of the cereal mixture and a dusting of cinnamon and sugar. Let the treats cool before slicing into them for the best results.

If you aren’t able to find a can of dulce de leche at your local store it can be made using sweetened condensed milk. This can be done on the stovetop or instant pot, just make sure to plan ahead because the can will need to fully cool before you open it!

Trust me when I say these are some of the best rice krispies you’ll ever eat. The brown butter and sweet dulce de leche come together in the most heavenly way. There’s no need to take my word for it… give this recipe a try and see what all the fuss is about!
